Mother Nature’s Black Label Manuka Honey is a premium product with a distinctive flavour and a dark amber colour. Manuka honey has a darker and richer taste than clover honey and has strong antibacterial and antifungal properties.

Manuka honey is a unique type of mono-floral honey produced by bees gathering nectar predominantly from flora found on the Tea Tree bush (Leptospermum scoparium), which is indigenous to New Zealand and the drier east coast of Australia. Manuka (from Māori 'mānuka') is the plant’s common name in New Zealand, also known as 'tea tree' in Australia.

Research has recognize that Manuka Honey contains very commanding antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiviral, antioxidant, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties, making it extremely effective and may assist with a wide variety of health issues.

Methylglyoxal has been identified as the active antibacterial compound in Manuka honey and is shown as an MGO level. A higher level is directly related to greater antibacterial properties. Compared to standard honey with hydrogen peroxide, Manuka honey is twice as effective against Eschericihia coli and Enterococci, common causes of infection in wounds.

 

Research has indicated that Manuka Honey inhibits enzymes called cysteine proteases, which have been implicated in muscle-wasting diseases such as muscular dystrophy, viral replication, tumour invasion and metastasis.

Diabetics - Clinical studies have revealed that Manuka Honey is a better choice for diabetics than sugar. Manuka Honey has lower required insulin levels compared to other sugars and produces lower rises in blood sugar due to the fructose it contains. However, diabetics should always consult their physician prior including honey in their diet.
